Superintendent Looks Forward to New Year

Since this is my first letter as Superintendent I want to introduce myself and share some of my goals for the 2018-19 school year.

For the past four years, I served as the Assistant Superintendent of TK Schools overseeing finance, human resources, food service, and operations. Working alongside former superintendent Tom Enslen, (who is now enjoying retirement), I understand the tradition of excellence that exists here due to the wonderful people of our community and the hard work of our students and staff.

Before joining the TK team, I worked in various capacities for Forest Hills Public Schools serving as a classroom teacher, varsity wrestling coach, and administrator at the high school, middle school, and elementary levels. I also have professional experience in the fields of law and finance - areas I worked in before pursuing a career in education.

I am a graduate of Grand Rapids Community College, the University of Michigan, Wayne State University Law School, and Western Michigan University Haworth School of Business. I earned my teacher certification from Grand Valley State University and am a licensed attorney in the State of Michigan.

My family is my greatest point of pride. My wife, Julie, and I have been married 23 years and have four children. Our two oldest, Sydney and Tommy, are in college while our two youngest, Jennifer and Rachel, are in high school. I count my blessings each day as I am keenly aware of my good fortunes both personally and professionally. As a parent and educator, I know firsthand the importance of caring for, protecting, loving, guiding and teaching our kids – all things woven into the daily work we do here at TK Schools.

I look forward to this school year with great enthusiasm as I pursue three primary goals. First, I will strive to introduce myself to the TK Community and reach out to as many community members and groups as possible. Second, I will proudly work to carry on the

TK traditions and values that make our schools and community a great place for students and families. Third, I will work to ensure our district maintains and expands its outstanding reputation as well as continues the high level of educational offerings provided to our students, all of which have made this school district one of the best in the state.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact me at 269-795-3313 or email me at [email protected].

On behalf of the Thornapple Kellogg staff, we will be working hard to make it a great school year for our TK students and community. As always, we will follow the mission of “Encouraging and developing the positive potential of each student.”
