Teachers, staff, students prepare for opening day

Thornapple Kellogg staff met recently to prepare for the upcoming year. TK Board President Dave Smith thanked them all for their dedication and service. "Everyone can be an encourager. You may never know the impact you have on the life of a student," he said.

Smith said when people are asked about their favorite teachers, one common element seems to appear. "What makes the best teacher? They care," he said reminding staff of the importance of making connections.

He thanked all the staff from the teachers and bus drivers to custodians, paraprofessionals and food service workers, for their commitment to the students at TK Schools.

The staff formed giant "TK" letters on the football field for the all-staff photo before going into the auditorium. The high school band, with an American flag backdrop, played the inspiring school song while staff stood and clapped along.  "It gives me goose bumps every time," said Superintendent Tom Enslen.

During the same week, families were invited to the school open houses where students could find their classrooms and meet their teachers.

During the staff gathering Enslen noted how appreciative he is of the entire TK community. "It's gratifying to know I work in a community that cares so much for each other. TK is a special place. Let's have a great year together," he said.
