Digital Media Student Video Honors 1965 State Championship Team

Team members and cheerleaders from the 1965 team will meet at the TK Alumni tent near the stadium entrance to be escorted onto the track where they will be honored as they watch the video and remember that incredible year.

Knowles is also working on a second video about the undefeated 1975 team that won the OK Blue League Championship and earned a second-place rating in the state. That year, the team also marked the 100th victory for Coach Bob White. That video is scheduled to be presented at the Oct. 17 home game.

“It has been a big project. I’ve been working with coaches and alumni from the 1965 and 1975 teams. It’s a celebration video about those teams,” said Knowles, whose senior classmate Collin Fazio also helped with some of the editing and filming for the video.

“I’m excited about it. I want to see what the reaction will be when people see it on that giant screen.”

Knowles is in his second year in the digital media classes. “This has been a pretty tough project just because there are so many moving pieces. But it has been fun. I like it because it’s more of a professional project. For me it’s a big step up,” he said.

Digital media teacher Derek Dean said he has been encouraging students to work on story telling with their videos. “This is a great video that supports the alumni and supports the community. This is a big step in the direction of this program and a great opportunity to have student work screened publicly."

It is the first project of this kind that Knowles has done and the first of its kind to be aired on the screen in front of the home crowd. “I think it has turned out the way I wanted it to. It has taken a lot of time. I’m just anxious to see it on the big screen and see how people react.”

Knowles said he liked working on the project and understanding the possibilities in video production. “Making videos is my favorite way to be creative. I’m a leader in the class and I really like what we’re able to do and all the possibilities we can do in this class.”

Dean is pleased his students are taking on more professional projects and have opportunities to share what they’ve done. “It’s also creating a pathway for students to show them what they can do in the future with these skills,” he said.

Athletic Director Brian Hammer said the new scoreboard, which was made possible primarily through donations, allows students to have these kinds of experiences where they can produce and share their content. “That was all part of the purpose of getting the new scoreboard - to give students these kinds of opportunities. They couldn’t do this on our old scoreboard. This is a neat project. It’s all student driven and student made and I’m excited to see it on the big screen in front of the home crowd.”
