TKHS to Host Mock Drunk-Driving Crash

This is only a simulation. No students will actually be injured, and the wreck will all be staged. The event is planned to be as realistic as possible, with a quick response from emergency personnel who will use their actual life-saving tools and equipment at the scene.

We feel this is a great opportunity to educate our students about the dangers of drinking and driving, especially during the prom season. The mock disaster will also be a way for our emergency services to practice and train for this type of real-life situation,” said high school principal Tony Petersen.

After the crash scene outside, students will reconvene in the high school auditorium from approximately 1:30 to 2:20 p.m.  During this time they will watch a mock trial for the “drunk driver” from the mock accident. They will also witness a mock funeral for one of the “crash victims” and a critical care scene for another.

“This event may bring about some strong emotions, and we want to encourage parents to have conversations with students at home,” said Petersen. He added that if a parent feels like their child would be uncomfortable for any reason, the parent may contact the high school office at 269-795-5431 to have their child excused from attending this event.

“We know this can be a difficult situation to watch, but we feel it is an important reminder for students about their actions and the consequences they could face. This season of prom and graduation should be a time of celebration and joy. We want all students to be safe and enjoy this special time,” said Petersen.
