March is Reading Month!

The unmistakable tune of the Olympics was played at McFall this morning announcing the start of the Reading Olympics and students will “Go for the Gold.” At Lee it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop as students dropped everything to read this morning and at Page classrooms are creating their Native American tribal flags as they prepared their teams for a “Survivor” style month leading up to the Battle of the Books.

Lee and the Middle School each have book brackets for the month where students will vote on their favorite books until one favorite is crowned the champion book for 2022. Students are encouraged to read as many of the books in the bracket as possible.

Throughout the month, schools also have special days to encourage reading - like “Hats off to Reading,” “Read a Shirt day,” and “College Day” to wear favorite college names on shirts. The calendar also suggests reading activities to do at home - like read aloud to someone, read signs as you pass in the car, read a recipe, play a game that involves reading or read in the dark with a flashlight - all fun ways to encourage reading.

The end of the month culminates with celebrations and prizes.

The district is also offering TK Bedtime Stories again this year. This is an ongoing event on our TK Facebook page where a link to a Bedtime Story read by administrators, teachers and even students will be shared each Sunday through Thursday night. The link to the video will be released at 7 p.m. each night so be sure to tune in and check out the TK Bedtime stories.
