Joseph is a Michigan High School state championship wrestler from Lapeer East High School where he finished his season year with a perfect 64-0 record and a high school career record of 202-18. He qualified for the NCAA Division 1 National Championship multiple times and placed in the MAC championship multiple times.
Joseph may already be a familiar face and name to some in the community already. He moved back to Michigan in 2018 after living in Houston, Texas where he coached wrestling. He coached at Allegan for a couple of years then started the Barry County Christian Wrestling program. He also owns Deep Water gym in Hastings.
“Wrestling has always been part of my life. My brother and I were both state champions. Wrestling is definitely my passion,” he said.
Although he wasn’t necessarily looking for a coaching position, the position at TK is one he couldn’t pass up. “I have the passion for the sport, and I know a lot of people in the program already. I know there is a lot of community support for the program at TK,” he said.
He said he’s excited about the opportunity and looking forward to a great season. “My number one goal is to build a culture and set a high standard within the team. Setting expectations is key. I’m a firm believer that kids can far excel at what they’re doing right now. The wrestling part is easy. Developing these students as young adults who will integrate into society well is the real test. It’s mental development as well as physical.”
