While it was still dark outside, seniors shuffled in wearing uniquely decorated senior blue jeans and nostalgic cartoon backpacks - from Ninja Turtles, Scooby Doo, Spider Man and Disney’s Cars. They spread blankets on the field and spent a little time enjoying the start of their final year and thinking about how they want it to be.
“Smooth and steady,” one senior told us of how he hopes the year will be. Others chimed in that they want it to be “exciting” and to “go by fast.”
Abby Gentz said she hopes for 4.0 GPA and Emma Johnson said she wants the year to help prepare her for college.
“I want it to be like a party every day,” said Lizbeth Lopez-Tapia. “It should be fun.”
A group of student-athletes gathered by the sideline all agreed they want to have a great football season and “win a lot of games.”
Seniors said this final year of high school is a time of their life they’ll always remember. The Senior Sunrise event was started by the Class of 2022 and has become a traditional way for seniors to start their final year. Parents provide breakfast and offer a variety of photo props celebrating the milestone year.
Giggling and smiling, students took turns posing for photos on the field and preserving memories. And it gave them time to think about their years at TK - whether they’ve been here since kindergarten or came years later - they’ve each made some kind of connection to TK.
Before they headed up to start the day in school, the class gathered around the Trojan logo at mid-field for one more memorable last, first day photo. At the end of the school year and just before graduation, this same class will have the chance to gather one last time for their senior sunset.
Good luck Class 0f 2027. Make it a fantastic year.
