Three Selected to Interview for Open Seat on TK Board of Education

The board received seven applications for the open position created by the retirement of longtime board member Dave Smith. From the seven applicants, board members agreed to interview three to fill Smith’s remaining term of office that expires in December 2026.

 

Candidates to be interviewed are Matthew Brown, James Flikkema, and Sara Syswerda. 

 

  • Brown works for a property management company and owns and operates a small real estate company. He also has experience working in schools as a teacher, coach and tutor. He has two children enrolled at TK Schools.
  • Flikkema is a high impact sales and operations executive with 20-plus years of experience in the heavy-duty industry. He is a territory account manager with Trux Accessories. Flikkema is a 1993 graduate of TK Schools. He has two sons who have graduated from TK and two more currently enrolled.
  • Syswerda has two children attending TK Schools. She is an education director at Pierce Cedar Creek Institute in Hastings, overseeing educational programs for all ages levels from preschool to adult education.
