We are Ready for Another Great Year at TK!

“It’s an exciting time of year seeing all the students return,” said Superintendent Craig McCarthy.

It’s also been a busy summer as administrators have been hiring new teachers and filling vacancies. Seventeen new instructional staff members have been hired as well as a new principal for Lee Elementary, a Dean of Students for the high school, and many other staff members who all play a vital role in the success of the district.

Administrators have also been overseeing a busy summer of construction projects. The high school received the most significant renovations this year. Students and staff will be happy to have air conditioning available in all the learning spaces in the high school starting this fall. The high school was the last building to have air conditioning upgrades. Now all school buildings in the district have air conditioning to provide a comfortable learning environment for students.

In recent years the district has had to postpone or cancel classes because temperatures in the buildings would get too hot. One year, the fall homecoming dance even had to be moved to the football field as temperatures inside the gym reached dangerously high levels.

An additional project at the high school expanded the cafeteria. The additional 3,000 square feet will allow for up to 600 students in the cafeteria at one time. The renovation also includes new tables and seating for students.

The high school pool is also continuing to undergo major renovations that will make it available for school and public use again. The roof over the pool was removed as part of an asbestos abatement process and a new roof is being constructed. This project will continue through the end of the year.

McFall Elementary had its 25-year-old carpet in the oldest portion of the building replaced for a fresh, new look. Because of a hail storm last spring, the district has also replaced roofs at McFall, Page and the Middle School.

McCarthy said there’s still work being finished at the high school, but the building will be ready for opening day. “The school year is just around the corner, and I look forward to seeing all the staff and students back in the buildings. Together, we are poised to have a great year!”
