They were all working on the same challenge - to build bridges that could span different distances between tables. They were given a limited number of simple supplies - a pencil, rubber bands, straws, toothpicks, putty, some paper clips, sheets of paper and a couple of paper cups. Emersyn won by correctly spelling “stirrups” and then “Columbia.” Runner-up Exley Roon missed on the word “divan” in the 22nd round. Each fourth and fifth-grade classroom sent one representative to the school final competition. The final spelling bee was held in the Thornapple Kellogg High School auditorium where the rest of the Page students and family members gathered.]]></description>

It is a K-6 building with some opportunities to grow professionally and half the distance from my home near Zeeland.  I am really looking forward to the opportunity but also excited to be able to be home at different times to do things like coaching my boys baseball team etc., that just doesn't work currently with the commute.  The distance and family time is the biggest reason for my decision, but excited about a new opportunity to grow.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Max Knowles won the Page Elementary School spelling bee with Camden Peter earning the runner up title. Eighteen spellers from all the fourth and fifth-grade classrooms competed Thursday in the school-wide finals. It  wasn't until the 12th round when Peter stumbled on the word "sepia." Knowles went on to correctly spell his 12th round word "clavicle" and then the winning word "lustrous" to claim the title. Both Knowles and Peter will represent Page Elementary at a regional spelling bee.
Other classroom winners making it to the finals were Jackson Conkle, Myles Chambers, Kayley  King, Landon Kostelec, Kenzee Knight, Koby Wilkerson, Isla Johnson, Tealy Cross, Jenna Robinett, Molly Alden, Adam McLaughlin, Sidney Ripley, Annabelle Pennington, Meghan Skidmore, Emma Johnson, and Lucy Kamps.]]></description>

Suggested Supplies:
Earbuds or personal headphones   (These can be found at the Dollar Store, etc.)
At least 1 Highlighter
Pencils   (already sharpened, if possible)
Erasers
12-inch ruler
One set of coloring utensils (markers, or colored pencils)
2 Dry erase markers and an eraser (clean sock or cloth works great)
1 Pair of scissors
2 Glue sticks
2 Packs of sticky notes

To share in the classroom:
2 Boxes of tissues to share with the class

					<description><![CDATA[This year’s Page Elementary Battle of the Books champion is fourth-grader Lucy Teunessen with the runner-up, fourth-grader Elise DeBoer. Students read books during March’s reading month celebration, then had classroom competitions where they answered questions about the books. The winner from each classroom the competed in the school-wide finals competition.
The battle encourages students to not only read, but also encourages retention of facts and information from the books.
The 16 finalists took turns answering questions about the books they read, taking 13 rounds before the winner was crowned.
Other finalists were Emma Reil, Aaron VanderWalt, Colton Wieringa, Grace Rabley, Devon Barnill, Aveline Jordan, Abigal Dumond, Tyler Voss, Caleb Summerhays, Hudson Thomas, Cohen Hautau, Kaylee Green, Hailie Zahl, Evelyn Callahan.]]></description>

					<description><![CDATA[Ellie Baranek rubbed her hands quickly together until she felt the heat building up in her palms. The fourth-grader quickly realized her action created friction that in turn created heat. "It's motion energy to heat energy," she deduced.
Her classmates rotated around the room to six different stations where they tried to answer the question "How do we know energy is present and moving in a system?"  They also gained an understanding of how energy is transferable.]]></description>

Hundreds of students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade are expected to compete in the annual event that encourages students to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), as well as use their imaginations to solve a problem.
