TKHS Class of 2015 Honors Top 10 Students

 

 

The following are the Top 10 students in alphabetical order.

Sarah Bakker is the daughter of Robert and Chris Bakker. She is a member of the Youth Advisory Council, National Honor Society, Teens Against Tobacco Use, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She has been a member of the TKHS soccer team and enjoys spending time with family and friends and being outside.

She lists her greatest accomplishment while at TKHS as graduating with at least 10 college credits to transfer to Grand Valley State University next fall where she intends to study exercise science and physical therapy. She will be in the GVSU Honors program. She said she wants to be involved in intramural sports and on-campus leadership while in college.

Amy Cutlip is the daughter of Michael and Melinda Cutlip. She has been a member of the Odyssey of the Mind competitions for 11 years and three times as a world finalist. She's also been involved in three plays and four musicals during her high school career. She's a member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, National Honor Society, Student Council vice president, and honors choir. She is also active in the Youth Advisory Council, church choir, In His Image group, and middle school plays and musicals as a technician.

Her hobbies include writing, reading, hammocking, knitting, hiking and baking. She notes her greatest accomplishments in high school as earning the 2015 Renatra Fusca Award for Odyssey of the Mind; being a two-time state champion for OM; and having a middle school student credit her with being the person she most admired.

Cutlip plans to attend Hope College to major in secondary education (English). She also dreams of publishing a novel before the age of 25, write for Saturday Night Live and write OM problems.

Nick Gonzales is the son of James and Kathryn Gonzales. He is a member of the varsity golf team, jazz band, National Honor Society, and Student Council. He works at the Hastings Country Club and helps at the YMCA youth golf programs.

His hobbies outside of school include golf, chess, reading and writing, classical and jazz music, and traveling. His greatest accomplishment in high school is gaining admission to several different colleges and universities; and receiving the Jack Kent Cooke College Scholarship. He plans to attend the University of Chicago, but has not yet decided on a coarse of major study.

Kyle Kane is the son of Kevin and Bari Kane. He is a four-year varsity hockey player and captain his senior year. He is also a member of Student Council and National Honor Society. He has been a tutor and enjoys fishing, swimming and weightlifting.

Kyle lists his greatest accomplishment in high school as being the hockey team captain. He will attend Kalamazoo College on a scholarship, then transfer to medical school to major in biology and minor in psychology.

Mason Lettinga is the son of Paul and Leslie Lettinga. He is a National Honor Society member, played TKHS varsity golf for two years, JV golf for one year, played high school freshman and JV football, and freshman and JV basketball.

He is an 11-year member of 4-H where he shows dairy, beef and swine at the county, state and national levels. He is a member of the State of Michigan 4-H dairy judging team. He is also a member of the Gun Lake Community Church youth group and has attended three mission trips. He enjoys owning and caring for animals, judging and showing cattle, playing golf, and hunting and fishing.

He lists his greatest accomplishments while at school as placing sixth overall as an individual at the North American International Livestock Exhibition in dairy judging, being on the high honor roll all four years of high school, and winning many awards through showing animals.

He plans to study animal science and ag business at Iowa State University where he also hopes to be a member of the dairy judging team and livestock judging team.

Madeleine Lince is the daughter of Kevin and Deborah Lince. She is a member of TKHS Honors Choir, yearbook, TK Trojan Voice, National Honor Society, golf, tennis, Business Professionals of America, Teens Against Tobacco Use, French Club and serves as the senior class president. She also was in the cast of the high school musical.

She is a member of the Youth Advisory Council and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. She enjoys traveling, reading, shopping and being with family and friends. She lists her greatest accomplishments at TK as her academic achievements and the friends she's made.

Madeleine plans to attend Aquinas College to pursue a career in the communications field.

Ethan Scobey is the son of Harlan and Barbara Scobey. He has been active as a member of EAC and the French Club while in high school.  He enjoys weightlifting, golf and video games.

He lists his greatest high school achievements as completing advanced placement courses and earning A's.

He plans to attend the University of Michigan to study mechanical engineering.

Nathan Seeber is the son of Chad and Joanna Seeber. He has been active in Business Professionals of America competing at the state level two years, National Honor Society, band, Calling All Colors, Student Council, two years of tennis, one year of theater, and completed an internship at Spectrum Health.

He is a member of the Environmental Action Council, Youth Advisory Council, and been active in the United Way food, toy and blood drives. He enjoys working, spending time with family and friends, and working on service projects.

He lists his greatest high school accomplishment as creating two successful bond promotional videos. He's also helped create a TK district video and has earned enough college credits to eliminate one semester of college.

He plans to attend Grand Rapids Community College then transfer to Grand Valley State University with a double major in business administration and Spanish. He hopes to continue his education and earn a master's degree in healthcare administration.

Maddy VerHey is the daughter of Timothy and Elizabeth VerHey. She has been active in TK musicals, varsity tennis, marching band, National Honor Society and Odyssey of the Mind earning the OMER Award. She also is a volunteer for the U.S. Victim Witness Unit.

She enjoys water skiing, cats and reading.

She lists her greatest high school accomplishments as being captain of the varsity tennis team and the band's flute section leader.

She plans to study political science at the University of Notre Dame.

Marlee Willshire is the daughter of Brian and Stacey Willshire. She is active in Student Council, varsity tennis captain, TKHS theater department, Honors Choir, National Honor Society, and Teens Against Tobacco Use. She is also active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Youth Advisory Council, Michigan Youth Leadership, Young Life, and Paws with a Cause.

She enjoys singing, acting, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She lists her greatest high school accomplishments as being student of the month, Rotary Student of the Month, high honors all four years, and Daughters of the American Revolution nominee.

Marlee plans to attend the University of Michigan to pursue a degree in marketing, analytics or entrepreneurship.
